Nigerian horseman
Beautiful old Nigerian sculpture of a horseman, covered in pearls, made by the Yoruba-people.
Provenance: former collection of André and Afo Guenneguez, authors of the book "Ars de la Cote-d'Ivoire et de ses voisins: catalogue des objets extraits de la collection Guenneguez" (Paris, Ed. L'Harmattan, 1991)
The rider's head is completely beaded. Pearl chains are wrapped around his body and limbs. A shell hangs from the chain around his neck. Over the stylised horse a saddlecloth made of textile has been hung (traces of age and discolouration visible). The horse is mounted on a base covered in green textile. Sending good vibes thanks to the bright colours!
