Auguste Bigand, born in Champlan on 2 June 18031 and died in Versailles on 3 January 1875, son of Pierre-Louis Bigand and Marie-Sophie d'Alban, was a painter of history, religious compositions and portraits. He was a student of Louis Hersent and he exhibited for the first time at the 1834 Salon.
He was very close to the city of Avignon, and made numerous donations to the Calvet Museum in that city, where a lot of his works are kept, including Le Caravage dans son atelier.
